Meet Our Team
Veronica Kidd – Director & Jan Fensom – Visiting Teacher
Kiddz is a long-established, locally owned and operated homebased childcare service in Christchurch. It is run by Veronica Kidd and Jan Fensom, two NZ trained teachers who are passionate about providing the best possible early learning experiences for babies, toddlers and young children, in the homes of our committed and enthusiastic educators. Veronica and Jan, the two members of the management team are also the visiting teachers, and have worked closely together for the last 15 years to manage the service and support educators to provide quality care and education for children. Outcomes for children are at the heart of all decision making.
Veronica has had 22 years’ experience teaching in the field of Early Childhood Education. She has worked in care and education centres, kindergarten, and for the last 15years, as Owner/ Director/Visiting Teacher of Kiddz Homebased Childcare. Veronica is on the board of the NZ Homebase Childcare Association which works at a National level to advocate for quality homebased childcare provision. As part of her work on the board Veronica has been on an External Review Group for the Education Review Office, is on the Early Childhood Advisory Group for the Open Polytechnic of NZ, and other Ministry of Education advisory and working groups for homebased early childhood education.
Veronica is married to Evan and they have two gorgeous boys, who are 16 and 13. Her oldest son is on the Autism Spectrum and Veronica has many years’ experience advocating for his needs and rights. Having the in-depth experience of living with a child with special needs drives Veronica’s passion for providing an Early childhood environment that meets the needs of all children and their families.
Jan has had 22 years’ experience teaching in the field of Early Childhood Education. She has worked in care and education, in special education at NZCCS for 7 years, and in Homebased ECE as Visiting Teacher at Kiddz for 15 years. Jan is married to Owen and they have five gorgeous children ranging from 17 years to 6 years old. Jan also has a child with anxiety, sensory integration and regulation needs and understands what it is to be a parent and advocate for children with special, learning and behavioral needs.
Both Jan and Veronica are strong advocates for children and families who are facing the everyday challenges a disability may bring. We welcome all children and their families to our service, and have the skills, knowledge and expertise to support children and their families, including those with behavioral needs.
Veronica and Jan strongly believe, that in small groups children develop stronger relationships with each other which enables them to become competent and confident learners and leaders, secure in their sense of self and in their relationships with others. We believe all children have a voice and need to be listened to. We are passionate about following the individual child, in order to ensure that as children learn and grow, all their learning, social and emotional needs are supported and nurtured so that when they are ready to transition to school they are confident and independent learners who are able to relate well with others.
Veronica and Jan see knowledge and training for our educators, as key to sustaining and strengthening the quality of outcomes for children.
